2015 GMC Sierra 1500 DOD lifter replacement - what gaskets and parts do I need?
A 2015 Sierra 1500 V8 is a Gen V engine (5.3 L83 or 6.2 L86). Speedway notes the AFM hardware and delete process are basically the same on LS and LT engines, and on both the heads have to come off to reach the lifters.
Parts for the job:
- Lifters — for a delete, standard lifters in all 16 positions. If you're keeping AFM, confirm the correct AFM and non-AFM lifters for your engine with the parts supplier.
- Lifter trays/guides.
- Head gaskets and new head bolts — GM's are torque-to-yield and single-use.
- Exhaust gaskets, plus intake gaskets since the intake comes off to reach the heads.
- Camshaft if the lobe under the failed lifter is worn — a stuck lifter can grind the lobe down. For a delete, the cam must change anyway (AFM cams have special lobes).
- For a delete: a sealed valley plate or tower plugs, and a tune.
A proper AFM delete: non-AFM camshaft, all 16 conventional roller lifters (not just the 8 AFM lifters), new lifter trays, and blocking the deactivation oil circuit (non-AFM valley cover or plugs); heads must come off, so head gaskets, head bolts and exhaust gaskets too. Inspect the cam and pushrods on the cylinder that failed before ordering.
