Best budget LS intake manifold
Start with what came on your engine: stock LS intakes (truck, LS2, LS6, TrailBlazer SS, LS3) are all strong performers, except the original 1997–2000 LS1 intake (Holdener).
When you upgrade, match the intake to how the engine is used:
- Street / mid-range (long runner): FAST LSXR/LSXr. On a built LS3 it gained +10 hp / +18 lb-ft over stock with no loss anywhere, and it fits under a stock hood (LSX Magazine). On a cammed 5.3 it gained +24 hp over the truck intake.
- High rpm / race (short runner): Holley Hi-Ram gained +49 hp at the top on the same LS3 but lost midrange torque, and it needs hood clearance.
- Watch out: the Holley Mid-Rise lost power versus the stock LS3 intake on that naturally aspirated EFI build; it's aimed at dual-quad or boosted setups.
Match the throttle body to the intake opening (e.g., 92 mm stock LS3, 102 mm LSXr).
