Best cam for an LS3?
BTR's current LS3 (rectangle-port) lineup, from mild to wild (2026, ~$410 each):
| Cam | Specs (int/exh @.050, lift, LSA) | Vendor notes |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 V2 | 217/23X°, .615/.636, 113 | Mildest |
| Stage 2 V2 | 221/24X°, .624/.636, 112 | |
| Stage 3 V2 | 227/24X°, .636/.636, 111.5 | Aggressive idle |
| Stage 4 V2 | 233/24X°, .636/.636, 111 | Aftermarket converter needed (automatics) |
| Stage 5 | 235/25X°, .646/.646, 111 | Most aggressive |
From BTR's product notes on the earlier LS3 grinds: their Stage 3 needs no piston flycutting with the OEM LS3 chamber size (check piston-to-valve if the heads are milled) and they've seen 480 whp with stock heads and supporting mods. The Stage 4 can require flycutting if the heads are milled. For reference, GM's stock LS3 cam (12623063) is about $230. Pair any of these with springs rated for the lift, and get a tune.
