Can I run a carburetor on an LS?
Yes. Carb-style intakes such as Edelbrock's Performer RPM (dual-plane) and Victor Jr. (single-plane) and Holley options bolt to LS heads. Because LS engines use coil-near-plug ignition with no distributor, you need a standalone ignition controller (for example MSD's LS box) to fire the coils. Speedway's carbureted, dry-sump LS7 Nova made about 700 hp this way (with a cowl hood for clearance). Carb fuel pressure is far lower than EFI's 58 psi, so size the fuel system for the carburetor.
