Do I need the Katech valley cover or the CBI plug set for an AFM/DOD delete?
Either works — it's one of two ways to seal off the AFM oil circuit, and you only need one.
The valley has four oil towers that feed the AFM lifters from the solenoid valley plate. You can:
- Plug the towers and reinstall a valley plate, or
- Use an aftermarket valley plate with O-rings that seal the tops of the towers, so no plugs are needed.
A sealed plate avoids driving plugs into the block. Neither one is a delete on its own: Plugging the oil passages while keeping AFM lifters is not a delete: the collapsible mechanism remains and oil can back-feed into the DOD channels and collapse lifters later. You still need non-AFM lifters, a non-AFM cam and a tune. See the delete parts list.
