What fuel pump and hose do I need for a 5.3 swap on a budget?
Pump: a 255 LPH in-tank pump is the common budget answer. Speedway uses one (in its universal in-tank module) on a cammed 5.3 and rates it for about 500 hp. In-tank is quieter and lasts longer than external because the fuel cools it.
Hose and fittings: this is not the place to save money. LS EFI needs about 58 psi vs 5–7 psi for a carbureted small block; parts-store hose clamps/rubber hose are not adequate at 60 psi. Use AN hardlines, push-on hose/fittings, or ethanol-safe hose (e.g., Earl's Vapor Guard).
Regulator/filter: a Corvette-style filter/regulator combines the filter, the regulator and a return in one part — see plumbing a Corvette filter/regulator. Stock LS fuel filter/regulator assembly tops out around 450 hp; beyond that, larger lines and an external regulator.
Size it with the fuel system calculator.
