What is the exact procedure to disable DoD/AFM in the tune without a mechanical delete kit?
With the stock cam and AFM hardware left in, it's a calibration change only. Per LSX Magazine, the main change is disabling the deactivation function and its related diagnostic logic. The engine keeps its AFM lifters, valley-cover solenoids and AFM cam; they simply aren't commanded to deactivate.
What to keep in mind:
- It isn't a mechanical delete. The AFM hardware is still there. Don't mix parts: conventional lifters with the original AFM cam can cause uneven compression, misfire codes and poor running.
- If a cam is added later, the idle airflow, fueling, spark and torque-model tables need tuning too.
- Doing it yourself vs a tuner: Jeff Smith recommends a competent tuner as usually easier and cheaper than buying HP Tuners or EFI Live for a one-off change.
The exact table names depend on your computer and software version.
