What is VE tuning and how is it done?

Here is what the documentation says. Each point links to its source; details depend on your exact computer, harness and transmission.

• P01, P59: EFILive custom operating systems (e.g., COS3/COS5) add VE-table scaling for two- or three-bar MAP sensors, the ability to eliminate the MAF and run true speed density, a throttle-position-referenced VE table, and a valet mode with configurable speed and RPM limits ({A0011}-{A0013}, {B3324}/{B3325}). The custom OS itself is free and needs no extra license. (EFILive)
• P01, P59; 2006-2007: EFILive staff (Ross/GMPX) have stated the Gen III custom OSs were written in 2005 and only cover operating systems up to that point; no custom OS was released for the 2006-2007 1MB Gen III PCMs because later R&D was directed at Gen IV E40/E38 ECM and TCM support. (EFILive)
• E38, E67; LS2, LS3, LS7, Gen IV V8; 2006+: E38 and E67 ECMs do not have traditional VE tables; tuning speed density on them means working with a virtual VE table. (LSX Magazine)
