Painless 60522 LS1 drive-by-wire harness: wire colors & hookup
The Painless 60522 is a stand-alone harness for 1997–2004 GM LS1 engines with drive-by-wire throttle. Its engine connectors are pre-terminated, so the job is mostly matching each labeled branch to the right sensor. This is the full hookup list by wire color, from Painless's instructions.
Painless lists wire colors per connector, not cavity-by-cavity pinouts, so that is what we show. The factory PCM still needs a tune that removes the anti-theft (VATS) before the engine will run; Painless says so in its manual.
Before you connect anything
- Separate the tail section from the engine group and set it aside.
- Connect both Starter B+ ring terminals (red) to the large battery terminal on the starter solenoid.
- Ground the three large ring terminals (black and black/white) to the engine. Bolt them down separately, not stacked on each other.

Cruise control switch (GM 25111262)
The harness has four cruise wires but no connector (Delphi discontinued it). Match them to the switch like this:
| Switch pin | Harness wire | Switch wire | Circuit |
|---|---|---|---|
| A | pink | blue | Power |
| B | gray | green | Cruise on switch signal |
| C | gray / black | red | Resume/accel signal |
| D | blue / white | yellow | Set/coast signal |
Tail section
With a 4L60E, plug in the 13-position TRANS connector and tape up the reverse-lockout and skip-shift plugs. With a T56, do the opposite: connect those two solenoids and tape up the TRANS connector. Either way, connect the VSS and run the gray wire to the fuel pump.
| Connects to | Wires (as labeled by Painless) |
|---|---|
| Vehicle speed sensor | purple / white lt. green / black |
| Reverse lockout solenoid (T56) | pink lt. green |
| Skip shift solenoid (T56) | pink gray |
| 4L60E 13-position transmission connector | blue pink (2) lt. green red brown yellow / red orange / black white tan / black lt. blue / white red / black yellow / black |
| Fuel pump power terminal | gray |
