Does tuning for a turbo differ from tuning for a supercharger, given how differently the two build boost?
The tables are the same; where boost shows up differs.
- Turbo: LSX Magazine warns that a turbo can build boost at part throttle and low rpm, before normal rpm-based power enrichment kicks in. Boost fueling and timing have to cover those light-throttle, low-rpm areas.
- Supercharger: a belt-driven blower takes crank power to drive it. LSX Magazine's example is a ProCharger F1-X using roughly 160–200 hp at full boost, so the fuel system has to be sized for gross power, including that parasitic draw.
- Both: less timing under boost (the denser charge burns faster, per Corky Bell), added back carefully on the dyno.
