What is the difference between Terminator X and Terminator X Max?
Per Holley:
- Terminator X: a standalone engine computer for LS swaps with real-time fuel learning, high-impedance injector drivers, a built-in 1-bar MAP sensor, and four programmable inputs and outputs. Holley advertised it from $999 for most domestic V8s.
- Terminator X Max adds two things:
- Drive-by-wire throttle control (one DBW throttle body).
- Automatic transmission control: on GM, the 4L60/65/70/75 and 4L80/85, with dedicated kits for the 6L80E/6L90E.
Rule of thumb: a cable throttle with a manual or non-electronic automatic needs only the Terminator X. A drive-by-wire throttle or an electronic automatic points to the X Max. Both are set up with Holley's free Terminator X software, which includes base calibrations for naturally aspirated and boosted engines.
